Chiari Malformation

Special interest in management and surgery for Chiari Malformation. This is often only an anatomical finding where the cerebellar tonsils are seen in MRI scans to be more than 5 mm below the foramen magnum, and this is seen in up to 1% of the population. The vast majority do not require any treatment, and when problematic, they may present with a range of symptoms, which sometimes warrant surgical intervention. In symptomatic cases this condition can often be associated with Syrinx formation and Hydrocephalus.
