CEREBRAL ANEURYSMS

Cerebral aneurysms are found in around 2% of the population, the vast majority do not cause any symptoms or problems, but are the most common cause of spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH). Aneurysmal SAH occurs in around 8 per 100,000 cases per year.

Management – Counselling of patients regarding the facts and appropriate information for incidental aneurysms, and sometimes treatment by endovascular techniques or open surgery and clipping. Aneurysms that present acutely with haemorrhage almost always require urgent treatment by endovascular techniques or craniotomy and clipping.
